The health risk of air pollution is attracting world-wide attention because it is an important scientific and social issue associating with many aspects of society and economy. In the past years, the air pollution in China has showed characteristics such as high frequency, wide affecting area, high intensity, and long lasting time. It greatly affects the human health in the polluted region. However, studies on toxicology and health effects of air pollution is seriously lagging behind the pollution control. Furthermore, the great complexity of sources and causes of air pollutants makes the toxic components and mechanisms still poorly understood. Therefore, the toxicology and health risks of air pollution are emerging as hot topics in environmental health science.
The 1st International High-Level Forum on Toxicology and Health of Air Pollution (THAP), organized by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences (RCEES, CAS), and Fudan University, will be held on October 20-22, 2018, in Beijing, China. This Forum will include the topics on measurement and characterization techniques of air pollutants, exposomics and molecular toxicology of air pollution, health effects of air pollution, and epidemiology of air pollution. The Forum will invite preeminent scientists, including Nobel Prize laureate and Academicians of National Academy of Sciences, on the areas of toxicology and health effects of air pollution to share and communicate the research frontiers and progresses. This Forum will greatly improve the knowledge on the health risks of air pollution and facilitate the interdiscipline research and international collaboration.
